Okay, what I am about to say may have no connection to medical transcription as such...or it may have a similar bearing to it, I do not know. Being an HBT and last haviing worked about 5 years ago in an office (where similar shenanigans took place too) I readily agree that I am way behind times. Anyway, here goes..
I have come across the case of a voice and accent trainer (VOA) who quit her job in disgust in one of the "top MNC companies". She was grossly underpaid, having to do 3-4 shifts a day and earning peanuts. All sweat and nothing to show for that. The management showed no inclination to stop her from going. The modus operandi is to take one of the employees and promote her to the position. Said promoted employee is all at seas and does not know what is going on. In some cases, the employee works for a client directly and has everyday interaction. So when the experienced VOA leaves, there is a huge hue and cry to fill in the job. The curious thing is that even though many people apply for this job, they are not selected until one fine day, there is a new VOA. The system is like this. The intermediaries who hire do not do so on the basis of experience. It is based on how much commission they earn, one month's pay to at least 1 lakh for the creamer positions I hear. What amazes me is that the upper level people do not seem to know what goes on and are only interested in results. I have reliably heard of jobs being 'sold" in at least one MNC.
Secondly, I am at a loss to understand how these companies are able to get work done. How do they handle the clients who are given atrocious service? They have so many inexperienced people who need proper guidance and experienced seniors to teach them..let me give an example of what goes on. Ms. X was deputed to work at Y company in the States..She was told nothing of protocol, culture, mannerisms, etc. on how to speak or behave in the States. She got her orders and flew off. Reachiing there, the company's representative Mr. Z met her at the airport. She fumbled here by asking him to open the dickey to put in the luggage (word used here only in India). He apparently was speechless as he misunderstood. She kept insisting and when she went around to the back of the car and asked him to open it, he went red-faced and opened. What she meant was to open the trunk. In the States, "dickey" or "dick" is a slang. You can imagine the guy's shock. This is but a small example of how the management does not care to train their employees properly and not want to hold on to the good ones. They need them cheap and work like the proverbal donkey.
I have rambled enough and just sat down wondering about what makes a company tick. I am simply astounded about how companies get away with things and the politics that go on where you have to buy jobs these days.
I do have a point. Could fellow MTs relate any such shocking stories about company politics without names if they do not want to give names? This is not to have fun at others experience but to expose what goes on with those who feel frustrated at not being able to do anything.
Forgive me guys if you find this boring. But you will agree that something needs to be done to revive this hapless forum and since MT is a dull and dead topic, it would be nice if we all could get into some lively discussion here.
Thanks. |

Yes, you are right backdoor facility always there in some MNCs because of consultants and HR people. Some consultants will give duplicate call letters also showing that as the orginal director did signature etc and they will take 1 to 2 lakh rupees.
Using people like slaves always there. We people also have tendency that we will not respect our next seat person. If some white person/NRI comes(boss level), we will give over respect, it will easy leads to above type of situations. _________________ To handle yourself, use your head, to handle others, use your heart
