|
|
| Since I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 last December, my Quick Look 2005 has started malfunctioning. If I enter/click at any drug name displayed in QL, it does not give the description. Just an hour glass shows up. Anybody else experienced such a problem? My setup.exe is of 43,238 KB. I have not linked it to my MS Word 2003. Or could be the problem lies elsewhere. My o/s is Windows XP Professional SP2. |

Dear Logof
No virus found either via AVG 8.5 or SuperAntiSpyware 4.33 that run on my PC. The QL 2005 is the same setup file I had been using for many years to install and the same is on a CD that I have had for over 3 years. I think the problem is that QL 2005 is not compatible with IE8 that I installed over IE6 on Dec 20th. In a message that I received from Stedman's on Jan 12, they will be checking on it and then get back (may be) to me. My QL 2005 has a lot of User Added drug names that I have been doing on getting updates from drug.com. I think I may as well roll back to IE6.
At the time of upgrading to IE8, I had also removed Nero 8 that was gobbling up 400 MB of my precious RAM for giving a whole gamut of crap services that I had no need of. I only required a CD DVD writer/burner. Then I tried Nero 7 which too demanded 240 MB of space and I threw it out. These Nero products do not allow selective installation. I wonder how much will Nero 6.6 require. |

To my query on the compatibility issue at http://www.productivitytalk.com/forums/index.php? I was told that remnants of Nero may be causing the problem. Yes, this Nero like Norton does not remove itself completely from your system when you uninstall them. Well, I spent a lot of time removing all of Nero by identifying its remnants through file search. However, yet QL 2005 would not work properly. Then I removed IE8 which rolled back my IE to IE6. Voila! QuickLook 2005 started working as before.
I received an email from Stedman's today, Jan 14th that they found no compatibility issue between IE8 and QL2005. According to them the matter may be in the version of Quicktimes and inquired the version that I am using. I am using free version 6.5.2. With IE6 it was version 4. Though free version 7 is available for Mac+PC, I have not yet downloaded the same awaiting their response which I will update here.

Internet explorer 8 is so heavy in size and takes so long to load that I have to reformat my hdd to get a decent performance from my computer.
Now I use Google Chrome. It is light and load fast.
Yes, Chrome does not have all those lights and whistles. It does not have all the menu items you desperately want never to use like IE.
Internet explorer is good in only one way, you can use it to log in to the ftp sites without using any third party ftp software.

| On not getting the latest version of Quick Look, I have now installed Firefox 3.6 as my default browser. The only problem with FF is that there speller is just no good nor are the add-ons any good either like OpenMedSpel or United States English Dictionary. I wonder if I can install the Internet Explorer Custom Dictionary into it. |
