Hi all,

I would like some feedback from people who are using BSNL broadband connection.

1. Is the home plan 250 feasible for HBMT work for a person doing between 500 lines or more and this would include being online for all of the time, uploading and downloading, and last but not the least referencing? If not, what is the best plan to take?

2. How reliable is the connection?

3. If the usage shows approx. 10,000 is it to be read as 1 MB or 10 MB?

Would be glad if anybody can help with these queries.

Thanks in advance

I am working as an HBMT from Lucknow. Since November 2006 I have BSNL BB Startup Plan 250 which gives 1 GB Usage. I have yet to cross my limit. The speed can range from 256 kbps to 2 mbps depending on subscribers being on line. Not that they do not have their share of problems, but they are far more reliable than the like of AirTel, Tata Indicom, etc. as all private operators have contracted last mile connectivity to Lallas. Of these pvt operators, Sify is by far the worst. Read all about it at http://broadbandforum.in/

In the usage on the top of the first page you get the Total Volum (GB). A figure under this column as 0.551 means 551 MB while 1.551 means 1551 MB. In the latter case you have crossed your free 1 GB usage.

If one is looking for a backup to BSNL, then look for an operator providing wireless connectivity.

Thank you, for your very helpful reply. I had given up on anyone replying, but I still dread using my BSNL home 250 plan. If my reading is correct, and apparently it is, I am clocking up almost 10 MB in just about 10 mins and barely doing anything. Forget about uploading and downloading audio or transcript files. Just logging on to check my usage I clock up about ! MB or more. It is frightening. I must mention nowadays there is no free internet browsing either.

Thank you once again,

With regards.

justaqu, I would suggest that you contact your computer technician immediately. My guess is that your machine might be virus-infected and may need to be formatted. Although simply logging on does indeed show some minor rate of download/upload, it will not be to the extent as you have mentioned. I have faced this problem in the past. Good luck.

Dear justaqu:
I agree with MT. Your machine must be having malaware and spywares. You may not have an effective antivirus and antispyware software. Go to http://free.grisoft.com and download their free AVG Anti-Rootkit, (413.8 kb), AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (11.8 MB), which is a free 30 trial, and AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5 (29 MB). Keep them updated. The Anti-spyware may be kept in a partition other than where your program files are installed. That way after the 30-day free trial period, you may uninstall it, remove the antispyware directory, boot your computer, and re-install it from the partition drive. Also download and install CC cleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/. Please check that you have at least 1GB of RAM. Also wise to have at least Windows XP2.

Thank you both gspal and MT for your very helpful suggestions. I did get a technician to look into it and there was a problem with virus infection. Also, now I have downloaded the AVG and normalcy seems to have come back. I am keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way. All the same I am very thankful to the two of you.

With regards
