I'm on this site seeing what it's about? I have a question....If this job is a "very high demanding job" Why is it so difficult to get a job. Especially fo those (such as myself) who are new and fresh from school. I know it takes hard work but give us a chance too! Plus I'm from Canada and it's even HARDER!

1. This is a situation created by ourselves. The US/Canadian transcriptionists had a field day in the past. They were paid well for their work and efficiency. Then came the outsourcing to US companies. Here the costs for the medical care givers were cut down because the companies were paid for the work done, not as full time employees. So the full time employees were forced to move out and get employed in those companies..... probably at lower wages.
2. Then came the offshoring.-- as a natural extension. The offshore companies offered the same services at half the cost. They had to --- to compete with the US companies. As more and more offshore companies came into being, the rates were lowered again and again. Ultimately the rates are so low and wages are so high that the offshore companies could not survive for long at those cut throat rates.
3. Now a new threat looms on the horizon. EMR and VR. They will kill the medical transcription within no time.
So every group - the healthcare givers, US transcriptionists, US companies, offshore companies, Offshore transcriptionist - blame every one else for all the ills that beset our industry now.
Yes, medical transcription is a demanding job. It needs commitment and efficiency to be a good transcriptionist, the qualities many of us lack.
It is no wonder it is very difficult to get a job. It is also very difficult to get a good transcriptionist.

James,
EMR (Electronic Medical Records) is a system by which the doctors enter patient data in to computers directly. It is being taken up in a big way by most of the health givers in the US.
VR (Voice Recognition) by Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking is good and is used by doctors in lab settings like radiologists, pathologists. They dictate and the output is edited by senior transcriptionists. So low level transcriptionists are eliminated.

Hi sir(transonica),

You are right. By VR (Voice Recognition) and EMREMR (Electronic Medical Records) entry level people will be eliminated.

How one will become senior without crossing junior level????

I think editors will survive, but how one will become good editor without exp as MT???
