Dear all,

Where do you see the MT industry heading to towards the future? Why I am asking is because of Weak dollar and increasing rupee value day-by-day. As of today, that is on January 16th, 2008-Wednesday US dollar value has come down to Rs. 37.50 per dollar. In 2005 January, the same time around, the dollar value was 48.50. In 3 years time, the dollar value has weakened by Rs. 11. As per the central Govt. of India and as the reports are coming in, it seems as if the rupee will continue to increase.

If that happens and if a situation arises whereby the dollar value goes below Rs. 30 per dollar, what will happen to MT industry and also to lakhs of employees and especially HBTs who work from their home depending on this sole income?

Please comment. Your valuable suggestions are requested.

Regards,

Akilesh

Sad I have changed my views. The MT industry in India should move to doing similar work of countries that have a stable currency like UK, Australia, etc. Continuing with USA will, in all likelihood, make a MT EMPTY as 99% of MTs in India are third party workers. Salary of full time MTs will too be effected. I wonder how in the current scenario HBTs will fare as they work individually and isolated.

I have been wondering about the same ever since the talk of declining USD came up. I am a HBT and my entire household depends solely on my income. The company I work for is quoting falling USD as a reason for not increasing my payrate and is even threatening to cut the rate further down. It's really unnerving, worrisome, depressing and makes me so resentful and mad especially knowing that they charge the clients 4 times as much as they pay me and I'm a direct uploader. So all they do is get the files from the clients and give me the link, I download, transcribe, upload directly and what do I get for my hard work? Where is this industry heading?

I really would like to know the payrates for direct uploaders in medical, legal, business and general transcription, either per line or per page or per audio hour.
