Dear Gspal:
Whatever has been told about Acusis is exactly right. Above and all those things mentioned over there, they always give extreme tough files and they simply ask for quality. Two of my friends who were working for them, stopped working after working for one year. What I do not understand is for an experienced MT, why do one succumb to unnecessary demands of any company, be it X, Y, or Z. You be your own boss is my policy. Sincerity and loyalty is okay, but that does not mean taking you for a run. One should respect each other in all aspects, then only it is going to do good for the employer as well as the employee or an HBT.
I was very clear on what I wanted from day 1 i entered into this field and I presented my things even as a fresher long long long time back to the company..that's how I go about it and everything by God's grace has moved well for me. It is always better to be like that in order to have a steady and good carrier rather than to repent later and keep moving from company to company. If you think, X company is not good for you in all aspects and also if you feel that employer is very rigid, you better not join them.
Job satisfaction comes first and then only money. Afterall, money has its own limits, isn't it? Money can't bring you internal peace or happiness or good relationships with the employer.
Regards,

Extremely well put, Narayan. I believe I had informed GSPal about my two attempts at Acusis. The first time I tried about four years ago, it was very, very difficult to make sense of the audio files. Even then, I was told that I was just short of passing their test and was encouraged to come back after three months. I went back after one year and this time, I walked out after 20 minutes without bothering about the test. I simply could not understand the dictation plus the audio quality was extremely poor. As it turned out, it was a blessing in disguise as I got a direct uploadable US job after a few days.
I later heard from someone that they deliberately do this so that when you join, you are welcomed with the toughest files they can throw at you. Pretty good psychology! So you can go and get your brains blown knowning that you will have to deal with tough dictations which others would avoid like the swine flu.
I agree with you, Narayan, when you say that it is better to walk away from such situations where your reputation, self confidence, and hardwork takes a beating. I personally prefer to wait for a better day and work for someone who appreciates your hardwork and professionalism. If your work is good and you are conscientious, you will be appreciated anyway and get an increment salarywise over a period of time. Not all employers are swines.
I remember an amusing incident when I worked for a company in my initial days of starting MT work immediately after my training. I used to be mystified when I got pretty tough files along with very few easy files right after joining. After a couple of months, I found out the production manager was manipulating things. Apparently every morning, a certain number of ladies used to go up to this excrement posing as a human being and flash their dazzling smiles and whine that they were unable to do the files and could he please do something about it, flutter, flutter their eyelashes? This bull on heat would instantly comply and what do you know, the rest of the hapless MTs would end up doing all the slog work. This went on for a long time until the company simply closed up.
BUT, I am extremely thankful for the tough files I did. It pays dividends later on.
Sorry for the aside, but I feel the experience I had is pretty common in practically every office and just wanted to share this with everyone. I believe it would be beneficial in the long run to do as many tough files as possible as it will make your work later on much easier, especially if you happen to get even moderate files.
So much for now. |

Dear Medictrans:
"I feel the experience I had is pretty common in practically every office and just wanted to share this with everyone. I believe it would be beneficial in the long run to do as many tough files as possible as it will make your work later on much easier"
It actually depends upon the company and the employer. By and large, as you said it is quite common in most of the companies including Acusis just bcoz by taking such spitting and smacking audios, the companies will be paid like anything by the client, even i heard that some companies are getting around 15 dollars or so per minute for such files. But, the companies do not want to know the rest, isnt it? It gets down to the head of the transcriber. When a transcriber is doing his/her work on a long term basis for years and years, it is really a headache for the transcriber and then the editor and moreover for the company itself. I think such doctors does not want their report to be good, it seems so from such dictations. Afterall what they are gaining by doing such kind of dictations other than just creating headache for everybody including themselves?
So, good quality audios mean good transcription plus faster productions plus less headache for anybody....so that's what I meant. Moreover, it is a boon for the transcriber as he will be using his ear, eyes, and head etc for a long long time. Otherwise, there is a chance that transcriber might strain any of the things including health by working on toughest files on a long term basis and a high chance of getting wearing down in the middle of one's carrier. I hope now you understand.
Regards
